Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Overseas Legal Advisor to oversee and provide strategic legal guidance on our international operations, focusing on cross-border education, immigration policies, corporate structuring, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have legal practice experience in both China and at least one other major jurisdiction (Canada, the U.S., UK, or other relevant regions).
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide expert legal counsel on international education regulations, corporate governance, and immigration policies affecting students, partnerships, and business operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements related to international student recruitment, business partnerships, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure legal compliance with education and business laws in China, Canada, the U.S., and other relevant jurisdictions.
• Manage risk assessment and regulatory issues, including data privacy (GDPR, PIPEDA, China’s PIPL) and intellectual property protection.
• Advise on corporate structuring and investment transactions, including cross-border mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, external legal counsel, and government agencies to address compliance and licensing requirements.
• Support dispute resolution and legal risk management, including employment law compliance for global operations.
Key Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent); Master’s degree (LL.M.) is a plus.
• Licensed to practice law in China and at least one other major jurisdiction (Canada, U.S., UK, or others).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in international corporate law, education law, or immigration law.
• Fluent in English (IELTS 5 or above) and Mandarin; strong legal drafting skills in both languages.
• Proven experience handling cross-border legal matters, including corporate structuring, compliance, and contract law.
• Knowledge of international education policies, study-abroad regulations, and student visa compliance.
• Familiarity with intellectual property, technology law, and regulatory frameworks across multiple countries.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work with a multinational team.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in international education law, immigration law, or technology-related legal matters.
• Familiarity with venture capital, private equity, or M&A transactions involving international companies.
• Understanding of China’s data security laws (PIPL) and global compliance frameworks (GDPR, PIPEDA).
• Multilingual skills (French, Cantonese, or other languages) are a plus.
